Introduction

Taijiquan is a Chinese art that incorporates health/fitness exercises, martial skills, healing skills, and meditation. Taijiquan is more commonly known as Taiji or Tai Chi dependant on which translation system is being used. Taijiquan means grand ultimate boxing. Taiji has been become very popular in the United States since it was brought here in the 1940s. People who practice Taiji typically study one or more of its component parts.

The health/fitness exercises of Taiji are one of the most popular aspects that is taught and studied in the United States. Senior citizens are arguably the largest population that now practices Taiji in America. In the last 20 years there has been an explosion in the number of people who call themselves teachers or masters of Taiji. Also, the resources that have become available are large in number. It can be difficult to find a good teacher or find resources that provide quality information.

The purpose of this pathfinder is to provide a number of resources to public library patrons, especially senior citizens, who would like to know more about Taiji and its benefits. Fifteen high quality teachers have been chosen to represent various aspects of Taiji. Specifically, information will be provided about one resource from each of the teachers. Web addresses and a short description about each teacher will also be provided. Information about Taiji instruction can be obtained from the various websites.
